Senator Chang-Díaz provides opening remarks at the Foundation Budget Review Commission press conference.
"It was an honor this year to co-chair the 21-person Foundation Budget Review Commission, which examined whether we are providing our school districts with enough resources to provide an adequate education. On November 2nd, the commission released its final report, estimating that we currently underfund our school districts by $1 to $2 billion per year. Improved weighting for low-income, ELL, and special education students, as well as more accurate estimates of health care costs were some of its major recommendations. There is nothing more important to the long-term health of the Commonwealth than our investment in public education, and I will be pushing for the adoption of the FBRC’s recommendations to ensure that our investments in our schools are living up to our expectations of our students."
